I have a Tama throne, heavy duty bracing that won't wear and tear easily, but with a Roc 'N Soc seat... butter [img]biggrin.gif[/img]
I bought the Tama throne (it was the 'first chair' model, the one with the big-ass seat)... i thought i would get used to it... nope. It was way too cushy and i felt like i was going to fall off and into my set. I went out and bought a Roc 'N Soc seat, replaced the Tama seat and it is great.
It was the best of both worlds because it is heavy duty Tama, but with more compactness than a standard Roc 'N Soc... well, atleast more compact than the silly one with 5 legs and looks like an office chair [img]confused.gif[/img]
Guitar Center is blowing out those Roc 'N Soc seats (just the actual seat, no hardware)... i would look into some combos that you could maybe work with that.
I like a little swivel, i mean, you can't physically swivel too much anyways before your legs get twisted to the side, but i see what Randy is saying... you doing the work, not the chair. On the same token, i don't like a seat that is so cush that i feel like my ass is riding on a poofy white cloud... i like to know that i am sitting on something (no hydraulics for these cheeks please!) I recently got the DW 9100M throne and have been very pleased with it. I didn't realize what I was missing with my old throne. The standard Pearl and Yamaha thrones looked good, but the DW seemed to be the best.
I'm more of a traditionalist, and wanted to stick with a plain round seat top. However, I was going to get whatever type gave me the best support, balance, and comfort.
According to their advertising, DW combines several types of foam designed to give you optimal comfort and support. I think this actually makes a difference, and this seat top performs as well as anything else I've tried.
I was having problems with balance, comfort, and lower back pain with my older Tama throne. It had a plain round seat top, but it was at least an inch or two less in diameter than the new DW. Also the foam had gone mushy and the frame was getting a little wobbly.
I think having a wider, firmer seat top goes a long way toward helping balance and taking strain off your lower back.
And as was mentioned, always get a tri-pod base. A four-leg throne will wobble on anything but a perfectly flat floor.

I agree w/ mja61...I was so surprised at what I was missing when I got a new DW 9000. I had no idea how much a good throne could afect my playing. MY former seat was much softer and I would sink into it...it was comfortable but now I realize it made it harder for me to play. It also moved slightly while the DW is rock solid
I bought that DW throne, and love the seat. I'm using it with my Yamaha base. The Yamaha base goes a bit lower and it's sturdier.
